the local.

good news. i am starting to get used to the routine of the metro and knowing where to stand so that the door opens right in front of me. this means i don't get beat up trying to get a seat in the mornings/afternoons. i guess it also means i am becoming a "local."

life has been pretty mundane the past week... nothing too terribly exciting, except for babysitting three little girls... which i thought would be a lot of fun and super easy. well... it was a lot of fun... just hard as all get out. joe helped me (thank the Lord!) but i think we both realized that we never want to have kids... i definately don't have the energy.

my life is about to get pretty hectic though. this weekend i am going to knoxville for a wedding in which i have the honor of playing piano in. most of my graduating class from architecture will be there so we are going to party it up. i am coming back sunday for baby catherine's christening for which my grandmother (mimi) will be in town for. that night i am going to see Uncle Earl (a wonderful bluegrass band) with my friends drew and ellie holcomb (ellie is one of my close friends who was also a roommate my last year in school.) they are also traveling musicians... check them out at http://www.drewholcomb.com/.

another exciting thing is that my mom is coming in town the next weekend! i am really excited about having her here and getting to do girl stuff - shopping, chick flicks, etc. - that i don't like asking joe to do with me. i am excited to show her and my other guests (grandmother and friends) my new home and the city i am starting to fall for.

even though the next two weeks are busy, i am still getting used to being here in Alexandria. it has been a hard transition because i still don't know a lot of people. i am hoping that i begin to meet people, find a church, and start to settle. i am not sure how long it is going to take. but i hope that "the local" i feel like i am begginning to come... continues to be just that.
